YOU HAVEN’T DONE VEGAS, TILL YOU’VE DONE IT WITH FOO
When it comes to a city like Las Vegas, VIP hosting is never just a job; it’s a lifestyle. Nobody knows that better than Kam Foo, the VIP host with the absolute most. But don't expect just another cookie-cutter night on the town if you’re heading out with Foo. When it comes to showing celebs, CEOs and VIPs a good time, this guy means business. As an industry insider in town for years, Foo says his cell is never silent, and to say his dance card is full would be an understatement. You may not be lucky enough to know this heavily sought-out host, but 944 is. We got the scoop on the ultimate nightlife experience in Vegas.
944: What brought you to Las Vegas, and how long have you lived here?
KAM FOO: I’m from Orange County, Calif. I’ve lived out here just over two years now. Las Vegas is Orange County’s weekend playground. A 45-minute plane ride and you’re here. I’ve been coming out here religiously once to twice a month for the last seven years. It was inevitable that I finally decided to stay for good. Vegas is where the action is, and that’s where I want to be.
944: How did you get involved in the nightclub scene in Las Vegas?
KAM FOO: Coming out here every other weekend, spending lots of money at the nightclubs and meeting all the right people.
944: What made you decide to take on VIP hosting and services as a profession?
KAM FOO: I spent the last 10 years in the apparel business. Just prior to my full-time move to Las Vegas, I sold the rights to my labels. Apparel is a brutal business. After 10 years, I needed a change. When I was in the clothing business, I lived out of a suitcase and in hotels internationally, doing shows, conventions, promoting my labels and visiting my big clients, while partying, schmoozing and entertaining the whole time. Vegas was my most frequent destination. I always had people in different cities catering to all my VIP needs. From hotels, limos, restaurants, clubs, etc. I have hookups everywhere. People would always ask me for favors. It got way worse when I moved out here. People I barely knew back home would call me up on their way out or while in town, and all of the sudden, they acted like they were my best friends, wanting me to hook them up with everything from clubs to hotels. I figured if I’m going to be a tour guide, I might as well get paid.
944: How did you end up forming your VIP organization?
KAM FOO: Well, I tried working for a local concierge company for about a year. But like many people that have owned their own companies before, I found it very difficult to work for someone else. I needed things done my way.
944: What are some of the services you provide?
KAM FOO: From show tickets, concert tickets, fights, limos, dinner reservations, access and VIP tables at nighclubs, entertainment, poolside cabanas, hotels, private jets, bodyguards, corporate event planning, etc. I provide my customers with any VIP service they ask for within reason, and the law.
944: Are your services limited to Las Vegas?
KAM FOO: No. I do Miami, New York, Los Angeles, etc. If you got money you want to spend, I’ll help spend it, no matter where the city. If I don’t have any connections there, I will by the time your plane touches down.
944: What sets you apart from all the other VIP services?
KAM FOO: My connections — the relationships I have with the nightclubs, hotels, restaurants, etc. I’ve been coming out here a long time. A lot of my close friends here used to be bellmen, valets, bus boys, waiters, even jobless. Now they’re hotel execs, nightclub owners, GMs, you name it. Making friends with the little people is just as important as the big ones. I can get things for my clients these other hosts couldn’t even imagine. That’s the reason my people keep coming back to me. If you want to experience things only celebrities, athletes and the filthy rich get to, and you got some money to spend, call me.
944: What is the range of your clientele?
KAM FOO: Doctors, lawyers, bankers, athletes, celebs, Fortune 500 CEOs, you name it. Everyone wants to have some fun.
944: What is the best part of the job?
KAM FOO: Besides the cash, the look on my customers’ faces when I walk them into the clubs, past the lines, past the masses of people looking at them saying, “Who the fuck are they?”
944: What’s the worst part of the job?
KAM FOO: I can never be away from my cell phone. I answer it 24/7, 365 days a year. There’s always a party going on somewhere.
944: How do your services help the different businesses you send your clients to?
KAM FOO: My clients are ready to spend good money. When I send someone to a hot nightclub or restaurant, the management knows they’ve got big spenders coming. My clients trust my judgment and will go wherever I suggest. If a certain club asks me to send girls there that night, I will. If a club asks me to book them more tables for a particular night they are trying to push, I will. It goes both ways. I send them qualified customers, and they give me what I need. It also helps that I contribute a large weekly amount to many tip pools around town. Nothing is free in Las Vegas.
